Vision therapy and neuroplasticity: how the brain changes when you see better

neuroplasticidad

We know that seeing well goes far beyond having good visual acuity. But what many people don’t know is that when we train visual skills, we are also activating the brain and generating real changes in how it works. This is possible thanks to neuroplasticity.

What is neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganise its structure and function in response to experiences and, in this way, form new neural connections throughout life. This property makes it possible to improve sensory and cognitive functions… including vision.

How is vision related to the brain?

A large part of visual processing takes place in the brain. In fact, more than 60% of brain areas are directly or indirectly involved in visual functions.

For example, when a child has problems with eye coordination or visual perception, it may be that their brain is not receiving or interpreting visual information correctly, which affects reading, attention, balance and also learning.

What does vision therapy do?

Vision therapy stimulates the visual system in a structured way, through personalised exercises that activate specific neural pathways. With each session, the brain learns new ways of processing visual information, creating more efficient and long-lasting connections.

This training improves visual performance and also has a positive impact on other cognitive functions.

A change you can notice

When we work with patients at Enfoca’t, we are not only looking for them to see more clearly, but also to use their vision more effectively. Over time, many of them experience improvements that go beyond vision itself: more confidence, less effort, better academic results and greater everyday well-being.

And all of this is possible thanks to the brain’s ability to adapt and improve when it is given the right stimulus.

At Enfoca’t we train your vision and activate your brain

At our vision therapy centre in Barcelona, we design visual training programmes tailored to each person. Because every brain is different, and every person’s vision is too.
